Secrecy is Out; Radical Transparency is In
Posted Thu, Apr 19, 2007

You'll notice both the homepage of the PR Online Convergence 07 web site and the conference brochure we used the headline: "Are we naked yet?" We thought it might serve as an attention-getting way to focus attention on organizational transparency, which is very much at the heart of what social media is bringing to the surface.

Transparency ... Looking on the Bright Side
Posted Wed, Apr 11, 2007

I’m a member of the Future-of-Media group and, transparency happens to be the topic du jour there also. I found the recent post of Nichole Khan, a social media research analyst (based in the U.S.), refreshing and insightful. She made the point that organizations that keep in mind and utilize the benefits of transparency demonstrate their leadership--and open doors to numerous new opportunities.

It’s Web 2.0: do you know where your office workers are?
Posted Fri, Mar 30, 2007
If you’re tired of hearing about MySpace and YouTube webisodes and are quick to dismiss the whole social media thing as something for the Lost Anyway Generation, think again. What’s the guy in the next cubicle really doing on his computer?

Transparency ... or Are We Naked Yet?
Posted Sat, Mar 24, 2007
One underlying theme of PR Online Converge is organizational "transparency", the buzzword that everyone loves to kick around. I suspect we'll be talking about organizational transparency for a very long time, and there will never be total transparency. Humans are never totally transparent, how could we expect organizations to be?

The 90-second News Cycle
Posted Tue, Feb 13, 2007
Mike Manual pokes a little fun at a colleague who proclaimed with confidence that the world's media still operate within a 24-hour news cycle." Heh? What world is that? It ain't mine jack....in mine, the news cycle takes 90 seconds."

Ford Lets Them Eat Transparency
Posted Wed, Feb 07, 2007
If there's a poster child (or orphan) for the ambiguous concepts of "conversation marketing," and "transparency," it would have to be Ford Motor's "Bold Moves: The Future of Ford" online documentary Website and video series, which shows you "the inner workings of the automaker as it rebuilds its business in North America."

Attack of the blogs -- are you ready to fight back?
Posted Mon, Feb 05, 2007
A hundred thousand new blogs are created every day, more than one new blog per second, according to Technorati, which tracks the content of 20 million active blogs. Kill the Press Release. Long live the Social Media News Release
Posted Fri, Jan 26, 2007

By coincidence, we're announcing PR Online Convergence 07 the same week that an inflamed discussion erupted on the PR blogosphere over "social media news releases, one of the topics on the conference agenda." Stowe Boyd, oft-times PR contrarian, says traditional news releases are "old style, push marketing crap," and that the PR establishment just doesn't get it.
