HP has been an innovator for decades. With 150,000 employees in 170 countries supporting thousands of different projects, the intranet has to be solid and a unifying force in such a diverse and disparate company.
@hp is the unifying center of the employee intranet experience – the portal for all employees.
Guiding its performance are five key ingredients[1]…
- Brew up creativity in the “meeting after the meeting”
- Blend in the flavor of a real voice
- Stir in a huge helping of the customer
- Add steamin’ hot technology and tools to taste
- Measure results, then sift thoroughly
As far as technology goes, @hp is killer: one-stop access to 1,850 customized e-services. Everything from personalized portal access to HR tools and forms, online purchasing, collaborative tools, podcasts and webcasts, and a special ‘newsgram.’
Newsgram Cheater is a custom application backed by an SQL database that automatically produces a summary description of the stories published in a given week. It is then distributed to all HP employees worldwide.
News is an important element of any intranet and HP is no exception. “Test Your Knowledge” survey is a multiple-choice quiz associated with every news story. The results are gathered to a database and analyzed for every story.
“They are very popular because we normally tie them to winning prizes,” says Majka Klemmer who is part of the intranet management team. “As an example, a recent global citizenship quiz garnered 2,500 entries and a recent product review quiz garnered more than 12,000 entries.”
Most importantly perhaps, the HP intranet is delivering the goods – and measurable success…
- 95% of employees access at least weekly
- 68% of U.S. employees set as home page
- One-click access to all HP locations
- Customized in 22 languages
